Wave Café
Café & restaurant interior · Shatti Al Qurum
Sixty timber baffles rise and fall across the ceiling like the sea outside, over a terrazzo floor, a green wall and a fluted oak bar.
The café sits a street away from the beach, and the owners wanted guests to feel it. The ceiling became the idea: sixty oak baffles, each cut to a slightly different curve, so the wave travels diagonally across the room. The baffles also hide the air-conditioning and soften the noise of a full house.
Below, the palette is light and practical — terrazzo, oak and cognac leather — with a green wall above the banquette and a long fluted bar facing the shop front. Warm globes hang between the baffles at table height, so evenings feel intimate even in a large room.

The ceiling stops people at the door — they take a photo before they take a seat. And on a full Friday night it is quieter than our old place was half empty.
